I made some phone calls a couple of months ago to various bandleaders since I'd recently left my function band. So I've been doing some deps with various bands, all of which liked what I did, but they all have regular drummers anyway. I told one of these bandleaders that I was available for any deps and he kept my number. A few weeks later he rang me and said his drummer couldn't make one gig over xmas so offered me a dep. The gig went great, comments such as 'fantastic, it's as though you've been doing this gig for ages'. So I was in for more deps. Well the bass player rung me today to say they're going to be letting their drummer go as he's not pulling his weight, he's more into other stuff, and they've offered me the gig. [img]smile.gif[/img] I didn't expect that, only deps. This is perfect for me as it's 2 or 3 regular gigs a week with good money per gig, much like my previous function band.
This is that gig where I'm playing to tracks but no click. Bit of a pain, and I'll try and persuade them to redo the tracks with a click. Just goes to show, one phone call can make all the difference [img]wink.gif[/img]

Yeah, networking is definately the key. You'll probably make several connections with people that lead to nothing, but when you least expect it or most desperately need it - You'll meet someone with whom you will work in the future. Congratulations on getting the gig!

Congrats, Rudy. I know the feeling, I got asked to join a band like that a few months back (no audition, thank goodness), and its been a great thing. But this thread's about you, so... Cheers!!
